In this episode, episode 80, I welcome Dr. Jonathan Curley to the show. Jonathan is an anesthesia resident and a veteran of an elite pararescue unit in the United States Air Force. We talk about some of the lessons that Jonathan learned from his time in the military and from some of the brave soldiers whom he knew who died in service to their country.

Excellent podcast. Thanks for sharing such personal stories.
Drs Wolpaw and Curley,
Thank you both for this inspiring episode, and special thanks to Dr. Curley for sharing his experiences. As an active duty USAF anesthesiology resident just beginning my military career and career in anesthesia (finishing PGY1 now, starting CA1 this coming July), listening to Jonathan describe the special caliber of people he encountered through his experiences as a special operations medic reminds me of the sense of purpose for why i chose military medicine and inspires me to look past the small but numerous day-to-day struggles and challenges that might make me lose sight of my broader goal and purpose. As i finish up the year and as i start feeling a little burnt-out, hearing this helps motivate me to look to the bigger picture beyond the day-to-day of internship and residency, so thank you so very much for sharing!
best wishes,
logan
Thanks Logan. And thanks for your dedication and hard work. It is appreciated!
I’m currently a SRNA and a first lieutenant in the Army Reserve. I listened to this episode twice while working out. Thank you so much for sharing. This episode was very inspiring.
Thank you for sharing such personal and incredibly inspiring stories Dr Curley. I’m a private practice attending and although I haven’t ever been in the military, I sometimes think of how hard it must be for soldiers in war if I feel exhausted. I loved the info about mantras in particular. Thank you for your service and good luck in your career. Just learned about this podcast today from a colleague and am glad I did.
Incredible, inspiring Podcast. Thank you Dr. Curley for your wisdom and your service.
Loved this episode. What was the paper and author you referred to? And was he a guest on another episode? Which one? Thanks
Hi Cierra, I’m glad you enjoyed the episode. Can you be more specific? What was the reference you are referring to? Thanks.
