In this 252nd episode I welcome Dr. Tim Poore, a palliative care physician, to the show to discuss palliative care in general and in the ICU in particular. He gives us some concrete tools to use when having difficult, end of life conversations with patients and families.

Fantastic episode, Jed. As someone for whom these “soft” skills are not as intuitive, I found this to be full of useful tips, strategies, and practical advice. I completed the best critical care fellowship out there (obviously biased), but I entered my first faculty job feeling largely unprepared to have the tough conversations discussed here. I think palliative care is the area where I’ve learned the most as a junior intensivist, largely by doing. Thanks for putting this out there.
