Excellent review! Thyroid function tests were all over my basics exam!
Great episode! Truelearn states that uncontrolled hypothyroidism can decrease MAC requirements and increase sensitivity to anesthetics secondary to the CNS depression. Just wondering your thoughts on this? I know that the Qbanks have small errors in them as well.
Hi Millie,
From what I can find, and it’s animal data, hypothyroidism doesn’t affect MAC. Thanks!
I think potassium iodide can be used for thyroid storm, but thyroid hormone synthesis must first be blocked (PTU or methimazole at least one hour before); otherwise, iodine therapy can enhance hormone production and exacerbate the thyroid storm.
Thank you for the amazing content!!
I think that’s right Tommy, thanks!

The recurrent laryngeal nerve is longer on the left not the right. I believe Dr Wollaston said it was longer on the right.
