This is the second and final episode dealing with the management of respiratory diseases.  In the first episode I covered the initial evaluation and preop preparation.  In this episode I cover intraoperative management, post-operative management, special issues related to one lung ventilation and special issues related to total pneumonectomy.

  1. Hi! I love your podcasts! Question about HPV: Do vasoconstrictors inhibit or augment HPV? I would think inhibit because if you are already constricted, it limits the amount you can further constrict, but I’m not sure. Thanks!

    1. Good question Jess. I’m not sure though I would think that it wouldn’t have much of a differential effect. Vasoconstrictors will cause vasoconstriction everywhere (except vasopressin which doesn’t act on pulmonary vasculature) so you will get some added vasoconstriction on top of HPV. If you already have less blood flow due to HPV then maybe less pressor gets there and there’s less of an effect but that’s just a guess.
